Land management in Tanzania is a major concern and is crucial to economic development. Access to land and security of land tenure is among the Government of Tanzania's National Key Result Areas (NKRAs) and is a key component of the NDP (National Development Plan) outlined in the National Five Year Development Plan (FYDP) 2016/17 – 2020/21. The reduction of land-related disputes and conflicts will contribute to increased productivity in business and in agriculture and will attract investors from within Tanzania, the Tanzanian diaspora and international investors.

Challenges persist in relation to the reliability of land records, land disputes are common, land registries are overwhelmed with associated problems and reliable land information is difficult to obtain. For this reason, Tanzania is currently seeking to modernize land services delivery.
